Good Hair

OK, are you ready for internal dialogue behind this blatant display of vanity? Here goes:
Wow. My hair has gone really good today. Sucks that the rest of me is all tired and spotty and not holding up their end.
You know, the blogosphere hasn't really seen my new hair cut.
Aw man, this would be a good day to show them. If only I'd done my make up and stuff.
Maybe I should do my make up and stuff.
Hmmm, nah I can't be bothered.
Hey, The Man is pretty great on MS Paint, maybe he can stick something amusing over my face.

In Which I Solve The Kitten's Problem

I'm here! I am! I just...shall I be honest? OK...I just bought a Mac and by golly I'm still trying to figure out how to work it!

I've got a pretty good grasp on it now. Much better than the first few days when I looked something like that kitten on a branch, you know, the motivational one. "Hang In There". I've got a better idea, go ahead and retract your claws, land on the ground, take a nap and then call someone that knows how to climb a tree properly.

Look, I even made a cute little case for it! (The Mac that is, not the kitten.)

But anyway, I'm here, and wearing clothes. And getting stares. This outfit drew quite a bit of attention. I didn't think it was that outrageous but one might argue that my idea of outrageous is slightly off base.

To be honest, I find skinny jeans outrageous. Or more specifically, Jeggings. Ugh. Look at that. I even capitalised it. Surely they aren't worthy of a capital letter.

OK, OK, I know this post is getting on the long side. But you know what? I'm just excited that I've managed to type this whole thing without deleting an application or setting something on fire.

Truth be told I am not a total technology noob. But I am easily frustrated. I like to think of it as one of my more endearing qualities...

Let's Get The Old Band Back Together Again

I've done a lot of reminiscing today.

Looking back through old posts I came across this one and immediately embarked on a mission to find those grey gloves. They're so soft! And I love them! And, sure, I'd completely forgotten they existed until I saw that post but...want! Now!

I didn't find them *sob*, but I did re-discover these tights. And hey, wouldn't you know...I'm wearing the same flanno.

The thing that tugged the most on my heartstrings though is a video I found on my phone from way back in January on Australia Day. Hanging around the table at Sophie's, talking smack and drinking out of watermelons.

Sophie and I way back in 2001

Sophie, if you're reading this. Come home! We miss you! I know you're out making the world a better place musically but I'm feeling selfish. I wanna hang out at the dog track. Play lawn bowls. Drink Banrock cask wine...

Who's Gonna Drive You Home? Me.

Today is a bit of a big day. A nerve-wracking, yet exhilarating day. My first driving lesson.

Please excuse the yawn... turns out being this excited/freaked out is exhausting!
Yes, I know I’m not a teenager. Yes, I know I’m a little overdue. But for a plethora of reasons I’ve been a non-driver, up until now.

I thought, to honour the occasion, I should wear something that I would have been happy to wear had I got my license at the, you know, conventional age.

But really, who am I kidding. I’ll wear something I would have worn in high school at any available opportunity.

Plus I couldn’t find driving gloves and goggles at such short notice.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to figure out how to flip the bird while keeping my hands at 10 and 2.

Sunshine And

We went to see Reggie Watts last night. Oh man, I don't even remember exactly what it was that made my cheeks burn from laughing so hard but I think we can safely say it was "everything" and leave it at that.

Only, actually, I won't leave it at that. I'll say this: Go and see him if you can! The dude is...he's really good, OK? Just go.

You know what made it even better last night? It was seated! At The Tivoli! Yes, I am officially an old person and delight at the option of sitting down at a venue.

Crazy thing you know...I can still hear when I sit down! I know! The body never ceases to amaze...

Baby It's Cold Outside

It is! It really is! I didn't want to get my hopes up too early. In fact, I was beginning to question whether it was actually ever going to be cold again. Or in fact, if it had ever really been cold in the first place. Maybe I'd imagined it. Surely I never actually WORE tights. And with socks? And scarves and fingerless gloves and *shock* cardigans? Couldn't be.

But it's back! In fact I am wearing a cardigan right now. A new cardigan. That I love. And I'm chomping at the bit to pack away my summer clothes and fill my wardrobe with snuggy, soft, layery goodness again.

Hooray!

Only The Good Dine Young

We've got a long overdue dinner engagement with Boozeman tonight. I'm stoked. Last time we tried to do this we didn't even make it to the restaurant. Instead we drank Bloody Mary's all night at The Bowery. I'm certainly not complaining. In fact I could sure go one right now.

And not only am I pumped to see dear Hole Punch but it's an opportunity to get dressed! Hooray!

I about BOUNDED to my wardrobe in poorly disguised anticipation only to be somewhat disappointed. Did I dare utter those words "nothing to wear!"? Eventually I found something. Something I'm quite happy with.

But I also found a whole heap of stuff that's about to be given the ass - if you'll excuse my sailor mouth.

Looking Back

Note: I was supposed to post this last night but I fell asleep. Yep, I'm a regular rock star up in here.

It's autumn today! And in a fit of sentimentality I took a look back to see what I was wearing this time a year ago.  Awww, look at me. So smiley in the rain!

And so business-y. I gave that skirt to Goodwill. I'm pretty sure the shirt is gone too. These days I have no need for "corporate" clothes. I still have the vest though. You can't get rid of a good vest.

I'd love for it to be rainy today. It's supposed to be tomorrow. And for the next 4 days or so. Hooray! Though it can take a 3 day break after that while we move house. That's right, a new Casa Del Saints & Sailors. New places to take pictures. Huzzah!

P.S I'd like to say a big, big, big thank you for all of your lovely words and wishes. Thank you for thinking and for caring and for sharing Lily's link with as many people as you can. Let's let the whole world know what an incredibly amazing girl she was!

I Am Not Afraid

 Mood board assessment piece

It's raining. With all of the flooding and cyclones I'm afraid to say that I love the rain. But those of you that know me (lucky things) know that I do. I really, really love the rain. And I shouldn't be ashamed to say it because I love the rain, I don't love flooding and devastation.

The rain is a little bit cold today. And that excites me because it reminds me that soon it will be cold for reals. And I will be able to wear clothes that I like. And layer them up, up, up!

Today I am wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Yesterday I was wearing jeans and a T-shirt (same jeans, different shirt).

More of the mood board

Soon I will be wearing socks and scarves and tights and cardigans. And boots! I saw some in the store last week. If you can get a hold of the security tapes there's some quality footage of me performing what is known as the rare "Boot Appreciation Dance". Powerful stuff.

Me, Me, Me

This is a jar of things that I like. It sits on my desk.

Approximately a hundred years ago, the ever-so-talented Kat of Kat's Creations tagged me in a Q&A post. Given that it's hot out and I have the day off I am wearing clothes that essentially don't touch me. And while I'm tres comfortable, I'm not necessarily winning any style awards. Unless it's the Award for Comfortable Clothes That Don't Touch You. In which case, I'd like to thank the academy.

I'll just get on with it shall I?

Why did you create your blog?
Ahh well, I'd been lurking and wanting to start my own style blog for oh, a good 2 years before I actually did it. I started with Style Rookie and was completely obsessed. I've always loved clothes and fashion and pushing the boundaries so I thought I'd start documenting it every day. It was pretty scary at first. Not the dressing but the posting. But now it feels like an old friend.

What kind of blogs do you follow?
Mostly style blogs really but I probably spend an equal amount of time looking at recipes and food blogs. As well as living vicariously through sites like The Selby and The Coveted

Favourite make up brand?
Hmmm, that's tough because I have a lot of make up. I actually went to beauty school and am a qualified make up artist, though I rarely practise. MAC probably. Nars too.

Favourite clothing brand?
Come now, that's like choosing my favourite John Hughes film! (OK, the Breakfast Club). I don't have a favourite brand really. I shop everywhere. I like to think of myself as an "equal opportunity shopper". Myer is usually my first stop just because they have so many different labels and really good sales. But it depends what I'm after really. So I think the answer is...pass.

Your indispensable make up product?
Oh man. The Mascara in Curling by Kevyn Aucoin. I could go on for days about how incredible it is and trust me, I have. Just ask anyone within a 5 metre radius of me at any given time. Seriously I'm gonna go ahead and say two words here. Are you ready? Life. Changing. No kidding. You MUST try it. I love it so hard that it's almost weird. Almost.

Your favourite colour?
See I always think my favourite colour is blue but I don't really buy many blue things. Clothing wise it would have to be army green. All the way. If it's available in that colour I will buy it in that colour. Or black. One of my all time favourite looks is a black bra or black lingerie under something white.

Your perfume?
My wonderful husband bought me Flowerbomb for Christmas and I am addicted! I wear it pretty much every day. Even if I don't leave the house. Before that it was Viva La Juicy. I've also got Lola by Marc Jacobs and Rose by Bvlgari in the mix. Come to think of it, I'm actually wearing the Rose one today.

Your favourite film?
Ah, we may have covered that earlier. The Breakfast Club. Hands down.

What country would you like to visit and why?
There are so many. I've wanted to visit Ireland for as long as I can remember. Because...it seems awesome? And Mexico. I can't believe I lived in California for 6 years and never got to Mexico. I really, really want to go for the Day of the Dead festival.

Make the last question and answer to yourself
OK, why is a mouse when it spins? I still don't know. One of these days I'll figure it out.

Today's Outfit Was Brought To You By The Letter Triangle

So today was built around shapes. Triangles and diamonds specifically.

Nothing to really credit as a source of inspiration other than I like this skirt. And I like this shirt. And I decided I'd wear them both today. And they both have triangle and diamond type shapes on them. So then I wore, or held other things with triangle and diamond type shapes on them.

Yep. It's about that deep around here at the moment. My brain you see, she no work so good right now on account of lots to do and not many cells to go around.

What shape are brain cells I wonder. Probably more blobby than diamondy or triangly, right?

Beside the Seaside

I feel a little like an old time girl beside this seaside in this outfit. And if this rain keeps up it might not be too much of a stretch.

All joking aside though it's starting to get scary. The Brisbane River has burst it's banks for what's set to be the worst flood since 1974. Parts of the City are being evacuated as are suburbs all along the river. There was an inland tsunami in Toowoomba last night that claimed 8 lives. People were stranded on the roofs of their cars and houses over night and more than 70 people are still missing.

It's weird because, as Hen said, these are places you've been. Streets you've walked. It's not some far off place. It's homes. It's friends and family's home towns.

My thoughts and wishes are with everyone at this time. Stay safe and dry guys.

The Big One

Today is the day. This time last year I posted my first, um, post.

I've kept a diary, on and off, oh, pretty much forever. And I used to really enjoy looking back at what was going on a week ago. A month ago. This time last year. But I have to say - I don't find myself looking back often with this blog.

However for this occasion I took a trip down January 2010 Lane to see if I learnt anything. If I can notice a marked difference in myself.

And...

Not really. I thought perhaps the blog had helped me with the confidence to be more experimental with my dressing. Maybe it was in the last 12 months that my love of print mixing was born. But it's not so. Looking back I was already doing it.

So what I have learned thus far, is this:
  1. Dressing doesn't always have to be about looking good.
  2. Do not put Italian Cotton in the washing machine.
  3. I like tucking things in (sorry 15 year old me!)
  4. I really don't care what the general public think of my outfits.
  5. I can never wear enough skulls, and
  6. I am so, so blessed to have 51 loyal followers and would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your comments, thoughts and clicks.

2010 was so exciting with the clip, the shoot and my styling business going off with a bang! I can hardly wait to share 2011 with you all. It's going to be bigger and better, just you wait!
