Well well, don't I look tuff!
We're back from our trip to Melbourne. Gosh it was awesome. I am absolutely in love with that place. The food, the lane ways, the sheer amount of shopping opportunities. Not to mention the buildings, the weather and the MCG. I totally get why everyone moves there. I took pictures. Let's view, shall we?
First off I love that Melbourne embraces street art. I, for one, am a huge fan of graf and I find it so hard to believe that some people think a plain brick wall (or worse, a brick wall with a blotch of beige paint where they've covered someone's work) is more appealing to look at than something like this.
This was outside in the building next to the Tim Burton Exhibition. I'm a) dressed very warmly and b) looking up at some awesome, abstract flower lights that were strung up around the top of the structure. It was absolutely gorgeous.
We visited the exhibition the next day. Unfortunately we couldn't take photos inside but I did manage to get one here of The Man checking out the Batmobile before we headed in. The exhibition was super, super, super cool and totally inspiring. The guy is amazing. P.S I just noticed that the patch on his butt totally looks like a heart. Awww.
So we went to Melbourne to eat, drink, shop and watch the AFL. All of which we did. Particularly the eating part. And the drinking part. Sort of. I managed to up-end a margarita all over The Man just as we sat down in the hotel bar to unwind (further, we were on holiday after all...) before heading down for dinner. So instead we went back to the room, cleaned off his shirt and waited for it to dry. This waiting consisted of me falling asleep while he watched football. God I love holidays.
Let's take a minute to talk about the shopping. I mean, that's what we're here for isn't it? There were so many places recommended to me that I just didn't get a chance to go to. It's OK though, we will definitely be going back. There were so many places that I did manage to get to and well, it was just awesome. The buildings, and the shopping. I came away with boots! The sole objective of my shopping. Plus, assorted awesome jewellery and a gorgeous, "vintage" 90's dress. Oh man it feels weird to say that. There were also "vintage" flannelette shirts at the store. I couldn't bring myself to look at the prices. I'm sorry, but they're $8 at Woolworths guys.
I saw this Tavi shirt in Myer and laughed. I mean, how is it that I start following a 12 year old girl from Chicago's blog 2 years ago and then on a trip to Melbourne find her adorning a shirt in a major department store. Honestly I was going to buy it and proudly rock it all over the place but the cut was certainly not made with my figure in mind.
And that just about brings us up to date. We flew back home last night and took today off work. Which was great because we spent it eating a mouth watering breakfast at our favourite place to do breakfast, then went to see the Ron Mueck exhibition. 2 exhibitions in as many days. Aren't we cultured? Then the rest of the afternoon was spent doing the grocery shopping and cooking up a storm. We bought a stack of DVDs too. All in all the perfect end to a perfect 4 day holiday.
Now, about today's outfit. Yes being on holiday is fun and staying in a hotel is exciting. But there is something to be said about not having to dress out of a suitcase. And while I love the cold weather, it was nice to be home where I didn't have to layer every piece of clothing I had over thermals before I left the building. This is exactly what I felt like wearing. I was super comfortable and felt great.
These are my new boots!
And one of my wicked new necklaces.
I got this shirt a while back. If we're being honest, which I am, it's a pyjama shirt. But I. Don't. Care. If all of my clothes were this soft and light and comfortable, well...that'd be just fine.
