Stay Gold
It was nice and warm today. Well, rather warm really. Though I didn't realise - all tucked up in my home office in a cocoon of air conditioning.
We ventured out late this afternoon though and enjoyed that perfect, golden part of the afternoon.
While I'm the first to wail when it gets above 25 degrees, it really is afternoons like these that you miss come the cold days.

The Tropics
Well here we are. The first day back at work. It was tough getting ready, let me tell you. Once I got dressed I forgot what to do next so I crawled back into bed. This was not a good idea. So I hopped back out and tied a scarf around my head. That solved that.
The weather made it tough to get ready too. It's pouring rain with a top of 25 degrees (77 degrees for those of you that are playing along at home) which is nice and cool but with 94% humidity which means muggy as hell!
94% humidity! Though I guess it makes sense on account of humidity is a measure of the amount of moisture in the air. And if its bucketing down rain (and I mean BUCKETING), well, I'd say that's a fair amount of moisture, wouldn't you?
While the only down side to this rain that I'm facing is having to dry my clothes inside (which, incidentally, is quite hard if it's damp inside which, hey!, it is) some others are not so lucky. Areas the size of France and Germany combined (!!) have been affected by major flooding. And it's still coming down. So please, take a moment to spare a thought for those that have been hit hard these holidays. Because warm, fuzzy thoughts make the world go round. Well that, and some sort of magnet thing.

Jean Whizz!
There are times when I want nothing more than to wear a pair of torn jeans and an anti-war T-shirt.
And then there are times when I want nothing more than to wear a pair of torn jeans and an anti-war T-shirt and take pictures of myself acting like a lunatic.
This was one of those days.

Give Me an "S"!
Lordy, it's sunnier than a cheerleader's disposition out there.
It's OK though, I know the rain is coming back. How? Well I'm a massive nerd and currently addicted to a new weather app that I just downloaded.
Yep. Say, did you know that it's currently only 32% humidity out there? Why, that's dry as a bone compared to the 80%+ stuff we've been dealing with lately.
See? Nerd. I told you.
OK let's get down to it gang. Something super duper pooper scooper exciting is going down tomorrow and being that I love you all dearly I wanted to give you the heads up.
You're gonna wanna go ahead and get yourself a Twitter account if you don't already have one. Then you're gonna wanna become friends with the very friendable Lustable. Trust me. That's all I can share at this stage but believe me. We're talking nose-bleedingly high levels of excitement about tomorrow. That's right. Nose-bleedingly.
P.S I promise it doesn't actually involve anything as potentially gross as a nose bleed.

When 5:30am is OK
The conference finished up today. I learned some really interesting stuff.
I also learned that I don't always like to be up at 5:30am. I like to be up at 5:30am if I am on my way to the airport aaaand that's pretty much it. Wait, no, I also like to be up at 5:30am on Christmas. Which is shockingly close by the way. We're talking less than 3 weeks. How did this happen??
Luckily I have all of my presents sorted so now it's just a matter of kicking back and trying not to buy myself anything in the off chance that someone else buys it for me. And really, that's not a bad problem to have.

The Man
I started my new job working from home today. I got dressed, walked to work, hung my hat on the door and sat at my (lovely, lovely) desk for a good 8 hours.
This first week is mostly research and familiarising myself with everything but so far, I'm feeling pretty confident about the whole thing. Hooray!
In the lead up to today I asked a lot of people for tips on working from home. A resounding one was to get dressed. I guess I have it easy in that I have to get dressed. Otherwise this would be a very different kind of blog. Ahem.
When I got dressed this morning I got dressed to go to work. I wore my new man's watch (love!), fedora and this shirt from my husband's wardrobe. No more working for the man. I am the man.

Want. Want!
I wore some clothes today and I really liked them. This dress is cut rather low on the sleeves so I balanced it with buttoning all the way up. I liked that.
I could talk all evening about the subtle nuances of such dressing but what I'm really excited about is this. The store is up! The store is up!
The store that I did the photo shoot for last month is now up. Check out Fearless & Harvey for all of your vintage needs. If you're like me and love the vintage clothes but don't seem to have the mojo to find them then let Kate take the pain away. Seriously. The girl has a gift. Here are some of my favourite shots.
I'm so proud I could bust!

What the Day Brings
Plans. It's so silly to make them. If I've learnt anything from my time on earth, it's that things rarely go according to plan.
On nights like tonight though, I couldn't be happier about it. I had planned on working, going home, making dinner and watching the finale of Junior MasterChef (sure, I'll admit it). But in a happy turn of events a good friend was in town and we ended up at our favourite bar before hitting up a sushi train.
Yep. Brad really knew what they were singing about.

After Effects
While holidays are fantastic, the amount of catching up on everything you need to do when you get back, well, it's not so fantastic. It's OK though. I think I'm back in the swing of things.
What I don't feel like I'm back in the swing of though, is outfits. It's happened before and it's happening again it seems - wardrobe funk. I'm going to put it down to an intimidatingly large collection of washing to get through. Plus it's actually starting to get kind of warm. Huh, Spring, who would have thought it? Seriously, it's like it listened to all of my complaining way back in September.
On another note, we went to the Good Food and Wine Show on Saturday. It was brilliant. As it is every year. This year I decided to wear a fork in my hair in honour of the occasion. I took great delight in hearing people whisper "it's the fork girl" behind their hands as I walked by.

Three
Here I am, age 3, with my kitten Molly. I had 3 cats named Molly when I was younger. One after the other. Not all at the same time. That would have been confusing.
I would like to think that they were named after Molly Ringwald. The Breakfast Club, my favourite movie, did come out that same year. Though, I wouldn't watch it for another 18 years. But, you know, maybe I just knew.
Someone once told me that I was like "a punk rock Molly Ringwald". Single best compliment EVER.

Don't Let The Sun Go Down
When we got home this afternoon the lighting was absolutely perfect for pictures. By the time we'd walked inside, picked up the camera and come back out, the sun had already sunk that bit more.
I can hardly wait for the sun to stay up that bit longer.
I have really been treated with the weather though. I can tell you now, I certainly wasn't wearing a cardigan and cowboy boots last October.

Spit 'n' Polish
Do you like my nail polish? I've been searching everywhere for a colour that I had in mind but couldn't quite describe. And I found it!
I was particularly stoked because it's just a little bottle. I've never gone through an entire bottle of nail polish and can't justify spending $17 on something that I'll only use once in a blue moon. I'm quite fickle with nail polish. I'll wear it every day for a month and then 6 months will go by and I won't even look at it.
My preferred style is chipped. Thanks Kurt Cobain and impressionable youth. In fact I used to paint them so that they looked chipped when I was younger. I also used to only paint my left hand and still quite often paint my left ring finger a different colour. It's just the way I roll.

Stand to Attention
Ooh I love me some khaki. I’m pretty stoked on this dress. I picked it up on Saturday when I put a few hours in at Chermside. Slowly but surely the spring closet grows.
And of course we are having decidedly non-spring weather. But I’m not complaining. I love the rain. Though it does make it mighty tough to get out of bed on a Monday morning.
Isn’t it funny that (most times) I’m ready to spring out of bed the minute I open my eyes on the weekend. There’s all that free time out there and it’s mine, all mine! But come Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday all I wanna do is burrow down under the covers and while away the day.

Splish Splash
After feeling rather unwell on Friday I wanted to add a splash of colour today. I splashed and splashed and splashed again.
I like the contrast and yet, similarity of this outfit. The paint strokes of the dress. The pixalised flowers of the scarf. The regular flowers of the belt. It almost seems like a bunch of different artistic styles.
I also like the belt tied instead of threaded. Like a trench. I like that, really, there is no real reason behind any of it other than I wanted some colour. And I suppose, that is reason enough.

‘Tis Better To Have Loved And Been Able To Keep On Loving
Welcome to the lightest, most comfortable fabric that I have ever worn.
I can imagine taking this dress on holidays. The perfect thing for wearing to the beach and then whipping the hair up, adding some mesmerising earrings and gorgeous shoes and heading to the bar.
It’s that rare length that doesn’t need a slip and isn’t too Nana like. Though the fabric does remind me of my Grandma, which makes me smile. It has sleeves so doesn’t need anything extra at the office. Plus it’s a flattering cut.
Basically, I am in love. I want to wear this dress every day forever.
But in a cruel twist of fate, this wonderful little thing is falling apart before my very eyes. And it’s only the first time I’ve worn it.
The hem is unfinished. It’s appalling work really. But I don’t want to let it go. This isn’t a one wear fling. This is for life! What do I do? I’m afraid if I hem it any shorter it will go from nana to no-no. Do I unpick and re-do the whole thing? I don’t have that much faith in my sewing ability. Do I take it somewhere to have it done professionally? That would end up costing more than the dress itself.
Why? What could I have done to offend the dress-gods so...
