The Dumb
For some reason I can't think of anything to say today.
I really love this shirt and as soon as I saw it I knew that I wanted to wear it with these shoes. So I did.
I added some other stuff too.
Normal braining should resume next week. Should...

Chexican
That’s what The Man called me when he saw this outfit this morning. He’s a clever one isn’t he? Also, just to clarify, that wasn’t him with me in the photos from last Friday. That was our good friend Pines Grand Fortescue. The Man was behind the lens capturing the hilarity.
For a shirt that I nearly didn’t buy, this guy sure has seen a lot of action. This is the 5th time I’ve worn it on the blog and although it’s quite a unique piece there seem to be a never ending amount of ways to style it. Let’s take a look back shall we?
Which one do you guys like best?
There’s been quite a cold snap coming through these last few days and it’s supposed to stick around over the weekend too. Although I’ve started contemplating my Spring wardrobe it’s a little too early for it to make it’s debut. I’m going to try and make the most of the last 20 days of Winter because lord knows I’m going to miss it the second it’s gone.

Down Time
Today was a public holiday and let me tell you, it was perfect. We woke late to the rain, made an awesome breakfast, watched one of our favourite shows, did a little gardening, a little housework, then made fresh pasta together. You can't top that.
I bought The Man a pasta machine for his birthday and we tried it out today. I must say, I'm pretty proud of our first effort.

From Little Things Big Things Grow
I want to thank you all for your lovely comments on yesterday’s outfit. Do you ever have one of those days where you cannot wait to get out of the clothes you have on? I felt bulky and awkward and man alive, can’t you tell by the pictures? Glum much? Sheesh. Also, note to the hair gods, please, please, please tell me what to do about the freaking layer of frizz that will not go away. I suppose the fact that it was/is raining wouldn’t help but come on, there’s only so long a girl can look like Kramer before she starts to take it personally.
Enough. On to today.
Like my snazzy shoes? When I was looking through the latest Emporium magazine I saw a pair of heeled tuxedo brogues with pink laces and I though “I can do that!” I just swapped out the laces of this pair I picked up a couple of months back with some ribbon that I had from High School (I have a jewellery box full of ribbon that I used to wear in my hair. Don’t think conventional though, once it helped hold a coat hanger in there…) and voila!

Orange Airplane
This dress is a good example of what I feel I’ve learned to avoid following my shopping ban. I bought it back in March and I’ve only worn it once before. It is 2-3 sizes too big for me, is conspicuous (not that that is always bad) and has ruffles. But it was $7 on the sale rack.
I’ve racked my brain trying to think of other ways to style it and this was all I could come up with. It’s not bad but it’s not a favourite. I definitely don’t get excited to see it in my wardrobe and I think that might be the clincher. Every time I look at it hanging there I think, “There’s that dress that I bought because it was on sale even though it’s way too big and I never wear it”. And I feel a little silly. And almost a little guilty.
So I’m giving it to Goodwill. You can tell that Spring is around the corner because I am itching to clear things out. Clear and clean and start a fresh.

This City is a Jungle
This is my friend Pines Grand Fortescue
Ooh I like today. I’ve pulled out the pink skirt again. That’s two Fridays in a row even. I like the pairing of the architectural pleats with the ethnic/peasant style of the shirt. Somehow it all works together really well. That is my pink, 8 inch, PVC, Magic 8 Ball Jesus
I’m really glad that I got this shirt. I ummmed and ahhhed over it for a good while. I’ve worn it so much already and it’s not even summer! I just know it will be perfect for those stinking, sticky hot ass days that are just around the corner. And again.
We’ve got a good weekend planned and I’m just itching for it to start. It’s The Man’s birthday tomorrow and he gets to do all of his favourite things. And wouldn’t you know, most of his favourite things are my favourite too…He's hilarious.

Let’s See Here
Ok, two types of stripes? Check. Two types of checks? Check. *Sigh* I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of print mixing. I wonder what the signs are that it’s becoming a real problem. Is there even anywhere one can go to seek help? “Hi my name is “____” and I’ve been print mixing for 18 weeks straight now. I find myself rearranging clothes on mannequins in stores to create better looks. I feel nauseas when I see a label with “Find My Matching….” on a piece of clothing. I can’t look at a person in uniform. Simple stripes and checks don’t do anything anymore. I need florals and hounds tooth and paisley and more, more, MORE!” Ahem…
Speaking of more, more, more, the shopping ban was up today – depending on how you look at it. By which I mean it’s been 4 weeks since I started. I’m torn as to whether it should be up on Sunday when it will be 8 July – 8 August. Perhaps I’m reading too much into it. Actually, when do you guys consider a month up?
I feel as though I should do a post on what I’ve learned/gained/missed over the last 4 weeks. With the haziness over how long it should actually go for though I think I’ll hold off until we’ve got it sorted. What I can tell you though is to thank you for reading and supporting me on this journey I will be hosting my first give away! And baby, it’s a good’n.
Stay tuned for details in the coming days.

Grown Up
We’re skipping out of work early today to do grown up things like have our passport photos taken, see our accountant and then go out for dinner and a movie. So I thought I’d wear a blazer. Nothing says “I’m a grown up” like a blazer, right?
I remember getting my last passport photo taken. We’d gotten some new, fruit scented markers in at work and just before I left to get my photo done I thought I’d smell each one. I smelled the mint one a little too enthusiastically and ended up with a green dot on the end of my nose. Classy huh? I remember being, a) horrified but also slightly bemused that I was going to have a passport photo with a green dot on my nose for the next 10 years and b) disappointed that the smell didn’t linger once applied to the skin.
I’ve not spotted any novelty scented markers around today so I should be able to keep my dignity in tact this time around.

Blue
The first time anyone called me “Blue” was my music teacher in grade 5. I was so confused. I remember thinking “my eyes aren’t blue, they’re brown…” He then explained that he called me blue because I had red hair which didn’t make any more sense to me so I stared at him blankly. What a ridiculous nickname. You don’t call someone “Whitey” if they have black hair. It’s silly. Makes about as much sense as “Carrot Top”. Having red hair, you get used to people calling you names. Sometimes flattering, sometimes not. At school it was mostly not.
I’m not trying to start a pity party. I like my hair. And I don’t give a damn what other people say. I just think it’s a silly name is all.
Moving on, I played with the blue elements in this dress again today. Though you wouldn’t know to look at it, this top is navy and white. Perfect with these tights (also navy) I thought. And the scarf, well, I like it. I haven’t worn one this way in a while. The whole keffiyeh overkill thing soured it for me. I like to think that it’s a little more cowboy/bank robber/pirate anyhow.
I really do like this dress but I don’t know that the pockets are doing me any favours. Don’t get me wrong, I like a good pocket as much as the next girl but when they move from pocket to paunch it’s not so wonderful.

On and On
Man alive am I tired. I’m just going to put that out there from the get go. Please do not expect too much of me in the brains division today.
We had a truly fantastic weekend. BBQ on Saturday then off to Splendour on Sunday. It was such a nice treat (thank you so much Sophie & Kate & Alex) and as a result it was real hard to come to work today. I actually nodded off while I was eating lunch. The last time something like that happened was about 7 years ago, I’d been adding gasoline to the midnight oil and fell asleep while I was walking. I woke up to the sound of my wallet and keys falling out of my hand and hitting the dirt. Needless to say I am very much looking forward to sleep tonight.
Speaking of which, I actually thought of this outfit as I was drifting off to sleep in the car on the way back from Splendour last night. Or this morning rather. I love all the layering. The way that the skirt underneath makes the one on top poof out and almost looks like a petticoat or something rather steam punk. The mustard and grey together makes me feel like a Scandinavian stationery supply store. I can get with that.
The No Shopping Report
It’s all over this week. Thursday to be exact. It was tough at Splendour I’ve gotta tell you. I just ignored the stalls entirely except for one that was selling an outstanding collection of Cosby sweaters. I’d only bought a flannelette shirt to wear over my dress so I was worried that I’d be cold. Everyone was all rugged up and I just knew that if I got real cold something was going to have to break. I even picked out the one that I liked the best if it was going to go down that way. It was brown and kind of stripy with cream flower type things. Sounds awesome right? It looked really good with my hair. But I didn’t buy it. The Man offered to buy it for me but I wouldn’t let him either. At the end of the day the only person I’ll be disappointing by caving is myself, I know. But I don’t like to be disappointed.
