Only The Good Dine Young

We've got a long overdue dinner engagement with Boozeman tonight. I'm stoked. Last time we tried to do this we didn't even make it to the restaurant. Instead we drank Bloody Mary's all night at The Bowery. I'm certainly not complaining. In fact I could sure go one right now.

And not only am I pumped to see dear Hole Punch but it's an opportunity to get dressed! Hooray!

I about BOUNDED to my wardrobe in poorly disguised anticipation only to be somewhat disappointed. Did I dare utter those words "nothing to wear!"? Eventually I found something. Something I'm quite happy with.

But I also found a whole heap of stuff that's about to be given the ass - if you'll excuse my sailor mouth.

Pride In The Fall

What's this you say? Selise actually got dressed? My word!

Now I assure you. I have gotten dressed every day. Even if I haven't posted about it. How exciting can a t shirt and skirt be day after day? Not very, that's how.

"Hi this is me wearing the same t shirt that I wore last week. Yes I washed it. No I'm not wearing any make up. Nope, no shoes either. Accessories you say? I can't...quite...remem...are they those things in a tangle in that box I haven't unpacked yet?"

No, I don't think that would fly. Or if it did, it wouldn't be the kind of thing I'd be proud to post.

"Wait", you say, "I'm shocked! Is this whole style blog about your pride Selise?" You're damn skippy it is!

So here I am resplendent and proud in my wonderful skirt. And where better to wear it than a trip to IKEA with my dear Mama...

I heart flat packed Swedish items!

A Tale of Two Boots

Friends, gather round. For today I have a tale to tell.

Almost 11 years ago now I, a bright eyed babe of a mere 18, came upon a vintage store whilst out with my Mum.

Intrigued we entered. And lo, like a shining light from our lord John Hughes himself were the exquisite Doc Martens you see before you.

I was but a simple girl. An Australian abroad in a far off land where people parted with such awe inspiring shoes after a mere trip or two around the block.

I knew that no matter the price, I had to have them. They would fill a hole that had existed within my very soul from the moment I became aware that such shoes existed as a wee bairn in high school.

With trembling hands I softly stroked the firm leather and with a breath in I sought the price tag.

$21.

All the words from all the mouths of each of the poets will never describe the sheer joy I felt at that moment.

I clutched them to my body and refused to put them down ever again.

Of course eventually I did put them down. I put them on my feet and together we conquered the world. There was no outfit not bettered by their presence. No mosh pit too muddy.  No bar room floor too sticky.

I loved my boots and they loved me.

But a strange thing has happened. Where once my dear Docs would take me anywhere without so much as a whisper, there is now a groan. Even a squeak if listened to in the right acoustic.

How could this be? After 11 blissful years together what has gone wrong?

Perhaps they are upset that I don't wear them as often. But, no, I don't think that's it. I wear them more than any of my other shoes.

Maybe they miss the stomping, the stumbling, the hours waiting and watching.

Or could it be they're crushed, as I am, by the new, lithe, nubile generation of Doc Marten wearers.

Perhaps my dear old friends feel just that. Old.

And what now? Will the story end here? Will I cast aside those that have taken me through miles and milestones in favor of those that are new? Those that having no stories to tell, are silent?

No.

I cradle them gently in my hands. I loosen the laces to make them a little more comfortable. They seem to like the extra breathing space. And I marvel that they have served me so long.

Then, with the conviction of a mother to their child I slip them on my feet, gather the worn laces and again take to the road.

Though they are old and worn; though they squeak and moan; though they're balding on one ankle - these are my boots. And we've got a whole lotta journey left in us yet.

And So It Began...

During the packing/unpacking process I came across something rather interesting.

Back in 2003, when I was living in Santa Cruz, my friend Ellie came over from Australia to visit.

We took a trip up to Seattle and Vancouver, got tattoos, lost our luggage, missed flights and had the time of our lives.

Being the eternal reminiscer that I am, I kept all kinds of ticket stubs and free newspapers from the trip. As well as this journal chronicling each day.

And as you can see here. I didn't just record what we did. No, with what can only be called "photographic like accuracy" I drew what we wore.

So there you have it folks. I truly am an old hat. Style blogging since 2003. REPRESENT!

I'm Still Here, Only...Now I'm Over There

Ah moving. It's a...well, it's a thing. I've done it a whole lotta (90+ now) times. Somehow I remember it being easier when I was a kid.

Clearly this is because I would wake up, go to school and come home with everything put away. My Mother The Wonder Woman. I swear.

I am slightly less wondrous I think. Or maybe, I'm doing it wrong. I need to leave the house and come home and it will all be done. Right?

Right???

Gotta Keep Moving

Here it is, my last outfit post from this apartment. This weekend we move onwards and upwards! Well, more like sideways, and maybe a little north.

We've had some fantastic times here and I'll definitely miss it. But I sure am ready for more space, less damp and a yard! A real life yard! Watch out Bunnings here I come...

Now, the outfit.

Oh, what's that you say? Boots?

Why yes, those are boots I'm wearing.

Can you tell how happy this makes me? Very, that's how.

Alright, I'll see you in the new place guys!

Well, once I stop wearing cut-offs and my husband's T-shirts that is.

Looking Back

Note: I was supposed to post this last night but I fell asleep. Yep, I'm a regular rock star up in here.

It's autumn today! And in a fit of sentimentality I took a look back to see what I was wearing this time a year ago.  Awww, look at me. So smiley in the rain!

And so business-y. I gave that skirt to Goodwill. I'm pretty sure the shirt is gone too. These days I have no need for "corporate" clothes. I still have the vest though. You can't get rid of a good vest.

I'd love for it to be rainy today. It's supposed to be tomorrow. And for the next 4 days or so. Hooray! Though it can take a 3 day break after that while we move house. That's right, a new Casa Del Saints & Sailors. New places to take pictures. Huzzah!

P.S I'd like to say a big, big, big thank you for all of your lovely words and wishes. Thank you for thinking and for caring and for sharing Lily's link with as many people as you can. Let's let the whole world know what an incredibly amazing girl she was!
