Deep In The Throes Of Musty, Mustard And Army Green Bliss

While swapping out my wardrobe yesterday (yay!) I was struck by a revolutionary thought.

Now that I can wear whatever I want every day...why don't I wear whatever I want every day?

Confused? I'm not surprised. Let me break it on down.

OK, I work from my home office. I occasionally (read: twice in 5 months) attend work events but aside from that I am left to my own devices, accountable only to Gmail and Skype. Which means my dress code is dictated entirely by my own varying desire to find things that "don't touch me" in what, up until this week, has been your typical sweaty, sultry Queensland summer.

But now it's cool again (yippee!) and I've spent the last hour rediscovering my flannelette shirts (I missed you!), mustard pull overs (you too guy!) and leggings upon leggings upon leggings.

And it was there, deep in the throes of musty, mustard and army green bliss that it struck me...

Selise, you can wear whatever you want.

No...seriously.

Those of you that have been following my blog for a while now might be a little miffed. Didn't I always wear what I wanted? 5 straight days of floral. Skulls, checks and stripes mashed up and served to the eyeballs of my (prior) corporate office colleagues is surely wearing whatever I wanted. And yes. It was. It was what I wanted to wear at the time.

But this thought. This thought was a different one.

If seeing mustard and check and torn denim and floral and flannel in my wardrobe made me so happy (and it did! It really, honest to goodness did!) then why not fill my whole wardrobe with things that make me happy?

I have no reason not to. I have no reason to look for skirts that "could look appropriate enough if I wear it with..." or even to scour the clearance racks in search of something to make up Entirely New Outfit #164.

Instead I can buy that $100 army green cardigan. I can wear my rose print leggings with my red and black flannel and I can wear it every day for a week if I want!

This may not seem worthy of a half page blog post to you but to me? Well something just erupted in my brain and I couldn't be happier.

  4. "Now that I can wear whatever I want every day...why don't I wear whatever I want every day?" I've asked myself this before when getting dressed in the morning to go nowhere. Then I change.
