I’m On a Boat

Actually I’m not. I’m on an office chair. But when I got dressed this morning that’s what I was thinking. I was dressing as though I was going on a yacht. When in fact I was going to work. And, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately depending on your level of sea-sickness) I work in a building and not on a boat.

Does that translate in the look? The earrings give it away, don’t they? If I can’t be on a boat, I’ll have a boat on me. Or two boats on me.

I must be really feeling the boat thing today because I picked up some boat magnets at lunch. Actually they are pirate ships. Is there a difference between a ship and a boat?

Boat. Boat. Boat.

Stand to Attention

Ooh I love me some khaki. I’m pretty stoked on this dress. I picked it up on Saturday when I put a few hours in at Chermside. Slowly but surely the spring closet grows.

And of course we are having decidedly non-spring weather. But I’m not complaining. I love the rain. Though it does make it mighty tough to get out of bed on a Monday morning.

Isn’t it funny that (most times) I’m ready to spring out of bed the minute I open my eyes on the weekend. There’s all that free time out there and it’s mine, all mine! But come Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday all I wanna do is burrow down under the covers and while away the day.

Glory Days

I might just be born for days like this. It’s a grey, rainy Friday. I am wearing a flannelette, floral dress with a slip showing and a pair of docs. It doesn’t get much better than this.

I know I keep saying it. But if I could wear something like this every day, sister I would.

It’s the nostalgia of youth, I think. This was pretty much my uniform in my teens (though it was a lot baggier) and while I don’t remember those years being the time of my life, I’ve never managed to move past this as my favourite style of dress.

I’ve even dug out jewellery from when I was 14/15. The garnet was given to me by my Mum. The vintage opal was a gift from my best friend in high school. An apology for being angsty. The story just writes itself doesn’t it?

The First Even Nontotient Or, Fourteen

I love the colour of this top. I bought it yesterday. Heavily reduced. I was a little uncertain at first because it’s a few sizes too big but it was the last one. It’s fine once it’s belted though so I am quite happy with my find.

The colour reminds me of something my Mum wore when I was little. I can’t quite remember exactly what it is. I think it was a pair of pants. But there is something about this exact colour that makes me think of an early picture of her holding me.

The style reminds me of something she might have worn too. A little hippy, a little gypsy – we have gypsy blood you know.

I’m not 100% happy with how I styled it. Probably only 86%. It just feels a little, old. I have a meeting with a client tonight so I think I’ll jazz it up with a blazer and different skirt. Let’s see if we can’t add another 14%.

If I Were a Boy

I raided this shirt from The Man’s wardrobe so often last summer that he gave it to me. Isn’t he just a gem?

I’m a little bit in love with my pocket square. I wish the design was a little closer to the top so it poked out more. But I like the little buzz of orange that it gives.

These shorts are a little bit mullet. God, that sounds awful. What I mean is, it’s work at the front and party at the back. After carefully cuffing each side before I sat down every time, I gave up. So now the front is cuffed and the back hangs low. Which I quite like actually. Party on good sir.

Little Red

Uh oh, I’ve found something I like here.

I have felt as though my outfits haven’t had their usual oomph lately. But not today! I’ve been reading that a lot of bloggers are feeling the autumnal blues. I’m feeling the spring blues.

I just can’t quite work my head around wearing such little clothing. Plus it seems like a lot of my “interesting” pieces need to be worn with modesty leggings or tights. Which just isn’t going to work in this weather.

Luckily for me though it’s supposed to rain a lot in the coming weeks. Word is it will rain more than it won’t rain, for the rest of the year. Which I am mega excited about. And coming off the back of a 14 year drought, I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Splish Splash

After feeling rather unwell on Friday I wanted to add a splash of colour today. I splashed and splashed and splashed again.

I like the contrast and yet, similarity of this outfit. The paint strokes of the dress. The pixalised flowers of the scarf. The regular flowers of the belt. It almost seems like a bunch of different artistic styles.

I also like the belt tied instead of threaded. Like a trench. I like that, really, there is no real reason behind any of it other than I wanted some colour. And I suppose, that is reason enough.

2 Hour Holiday

We’re going out for Thai tonight. It seems my tastebuds weren’t the only ones to be excited at the prospect. My wardrobe has gotten in on the action and I found myself dressed as if I were on holidays.

A belted, oversized shirt dress. Turquoise jewellery. Stacked leather wedges. A beautiful silk head scarf. Yep, someone was certainly in denial about spending the day at their desk.

The days are getting sunnier. Christmas is 12 weeks away (on Saturday). All I can think about is lazing around somewhere near the beach with a drink in hand. Unfortunately a girl’s gots to get paid and until I figure out how to make money out of lying on said beach with said drink, I’m going to have to settle for fluorescent lighting and tap water.
